What is the SAT? It is a standardized test that students must take in order to apply to most colleges. It tests students’ mastery of grammar, critical reading, and mathematics. It serves as a key tool to compare one student’s academic performance to his or her peers. Although there are many valid critiques of the SAT, most students still must take it (or its rival, the ACT), and they must perform well to get accepted to their top-choice colleges.

Because the SAT and ACT are standardized tests, they pose the same types of question over and over again. To do well, a student must become familiar with the problem types. The questions on the tests are consistent and predictable, so building familiarity with the format and question types allows a student to perform better than he or she would without preparation. Our average student improves over 150 points on the SAT, and 4 points on the ACT. We don’t make our students smarter, but we teach them how to perform more effectively under the specific parameters of the standardized tests.

We recommend students start preparing for the SAT in their sophomore or junior year. Cramming is not an effective method for building a mastery on the SAT. Starting the process early also reduces stress for both student and parents.

Finding a good SAT tutoring program is one of the best ways for a student to reach their full potential when it comes to doing well on the SAT. There are many options: books, classes, one-on-one tutoring, and online materials, to name a few. Determine which type of test prep fits your needs best depends on budget, timeline, and a student’s learning style and goal score.

We’ve found our personalized, one-on-one instruction to be especially beneficial for students who hope to dramatically improve their scores. Our instructors bring a depth of experience and we customize all of our lessons to a student’s unique needs.

We love to help our students reach their full test-taking potential. We’ve been in business since May 2012, and have helped hundreds of students boost their SAT scores.
